On India Upfront with Padmaja Joshi, we discuss the restoration of the Rs. 900 crore that was taken away by fugitives from Indian banks. The government said that India’s relentless investigation in bank frauds has paid off and the taxpayers’ money has been restored by the government. Assets worth Rs. 18,000 crores have been seized. The fugitives from whom the money has been recovered by the Enforcement Directorate include Vijay Mallya, Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi. Political Analyst Karan Bhasin says this is the real penalty imposed on wilful defaulters, who attempted to defraud the system.
